Call for participatory research projects: Incorporating more plant-based food

However, looking beyond the academic aspects, it is essential for those who have a stake in the results of these projects – eaters, i.e. citizens – to be invested in this work.

After more than 10 years of calls for projects and research support, notably through its Louis Bonduelle Research Award, the Louis Bonduelle Foundation has decided to shift its financial support towards participatory research.

We fundamentally believe that building knowledge jointly is a major factor in the success of a food transition. This has already been understood by multidisciplinary research teams. However, looking beyond the academic aspects, it is essential for those who have a stake in the results of these projects – eaters, i.e. citizens – to be invested in this work. These projects are therefore as close as possible to the realities of the situation and increase the chances of a positive impact on the process of changing eating habits, which is highly complex and subject to multiple factors.

Thanks to our experience in the field and the changing conditions in our society, we can fund projects that combine: the involvement of academic research teams, working to acquire new knowledge about plant-based food and to put the knowledge acquired in the field into practice; and the involvement of citizens, from participating in experimental protocols to evaluating the effectiveness of the identified solutions to incorporate more plant-based food.

THE EVALUATION WILL BE DONE ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

  1. Consistency with the theme of the call for projects: “incorporating more plant-based food”.
  2. Strength of the research team/citizen association consortium: common vision, complementary objectives, sharing of tasks and responsibilities, implications for all, cross-sharing of knowledge and know-how.
  3. Scientific quality of the project: originality of the work, quality of the protocol, prior assessment of biases, highlighting of operational influences on the results and their limitations, and the expected acquisition of knowledge.
  4. Organizational quality of the project: management of the project with everyone involved, suitability of resources for ambition, realistic budget and time, evaluation of the risks of stopping the project in progress.
  5. Impact: scientific impact (dissemination of results, planned symposiums and conferences, identified geographic scope), impact in the field (evaluation, capacity for scaling up, resources necessary to reach a wide audience).
